Welcome
Boomerang Web Design is a service provided by ITS Web Technology Services. We help departments on campus freshen up their web site both in look and to make sure it meets web standards. Using a fleet of students mentored by full-time staff, the student web designers perform the majority of design work. This model involves recruiting students with an interest in pursuing careers in IT and/or web design and affords them a unique opportunity to fully participate in and gain real-world experience while engaging in all facets of a web design project
Why Boomerang?
When departments/organizations come to us looking for a design, we commonly are taking a site that has not been updated for awhile. We like to think of this as the site owner "tossing the boomerang" towards us so we can work on a new design. Using the site owner's suggestions and recommendations, our students come up with a number of designs to share. The boomerang then comes back at the site owner to review the designs and give comments and critiques on them.
After reviewing the site, the boomerang is tossed back to start working on the final design. This sometimes requires the boomerang to go back and forth a few times to come to the final design with the end goal being a design the site owner loves. After the final design is complete, we train the site owner on how to update their site with a product called Adobe Contribute. Contribute gives a basic interface to updating a web site allowing even the most intimidated user the ability to update the web site. We also provide on site training for Contribute for any users who will be updating the site. At this point the boomerang comes back to the site owner for the last time as they have their new site and can update it easily.
